Wide Receivers 2010 (The Continuing Conversation)

When we last left the topic of Wide Receivers (it's been a few weeks, and that thread literally went down in flames), Antonio Bryant still played for the Bucs, the Bucs had a sixth round pick in 2011, and Ron and I are finally getting along (don't disappoint me dude, it's been nice to just take on the issues).

So with cats and dogs falling in love and having bacon, sausage, and pork on hand, thanks to the pigs I shot out of the sky, we start a new thread on Wide Receivers starting with the new addition of Reggie Brown:

I like this trade, it's essentially taking a flyer on a guy who I think has talent, but got edged out of his job in Philly. I think it defeats the "younger" idea, but I like this move. I also think that maybe we won't have a Top 5 receiver, but we might end up better than last year (to which someone will say, "Gee, that's hard to do"), and someone who might just have effectively replaced Bryant (it may be a stretch now, but remind me of recent Bucs history about the last time they took a guy who was out of football for a year with up and down years.

I remember that I liked Ron's idea about Donte Stallworth (which is what we ended on with the last thread, and I'll leave you with links to both of their career stats, as well as those of Antonio Bryant, so we see what we lost and maybe a glimpse of history repeating itself, maybe:

3. What do the Bucs need and need to do at the Wide Receiver position moving forward?

Will Bucs Try to Trade Down even if McCoy is still Available?

Since I'm tired of bouncing around to different threads let me ask here, Will the Bucs try to trade down even if McCoy or Suh are still on the board?
I have been saying for quite a while that I can't see the Bucs laying out the up front money, some 30 mil, for the #3 pick overall. Why lay out the kind of jack for 1 player when you can pay 3-4 or more for the same money? It's fit's their M.O. When you consider they can still get a quality D-line prospect later in the first round it seems to fit.

I expect to see some draft day shennanigans that will make our heads spin. What say you?

......and the Bucs haven't even thought of picking up anyone from what it looks like. But if they think that they're gonna even win 4 games without signing or trading for some players then they are completely clueless, and I want the entire staff fired after the season when we finish 3-13 or worse again!

Tough game against Providence tonight!

I was at the Sun Dome tonight rooting on our Bulls, and it was a tough game and there were many times I thought Providence had won it after making about 12 three pointers all night. Buuuut - it came down to the last 3 minutes where USF got red hot and Providence made a ton of mistakes, and the Bulls were able to pull out the win in the end 99-93!!

Veteran Quarterback (Who Should We Get?)

The article suggests that the Bucs should go after a Veteran Quarterback, should they not keep Leftwich, and they suggest Marc Bulger and Chad Pennington as ideas.

The Bucs have:
1. Josh Freeman (Rookie last year, Starter)
2. Josh Johnson (First playing time last year, #2 or #3)
3. Rudy Carpenter (#3 last year from the Dallas practice squad late in the year).
4. Byron Leftwich ($2 million for a #2/#3? Is he worth it?)

So outside of Leftwich, the QB staff has practically NO NFL EXPERIENCE prior to last year, and definitely no playing time (12 games, all last year, and Johnson as a #4 QB in 2008, doesn't really count for much).

So...

What do you think the Bucs should do about having a fourth quarterback ahead of camp?

Here's my take on the options, and should be a good list for the rest of your to work with... let me know what you think...

Leftwich - Not a bad idea, but $2 million for a third QB?

Bulger - He has a history with Greg Olson, but he's fallen off the side of the earth. If he comes cheap, give him a camp invite and see what's left.

Pennington - Does this guy have any arm left after so many shoulder injuries? Another camp invite idea.

Charlie Batch - I really like this guy as an option. He's been backing up Big Ben when he hasn't gotten hurt, and I remember that he did have some really good seasons in Detroit, including taking them to the playoffs against the Bucs, years ago. He's worth it and shouldn't cost too much.

David Carr/A.J. Feeley - HELL NO!

Jeff Garcia - If we took Advil for as much of a headache he'd be (which is probably why he didn't stay with the Raiders long enough to get the starting job he desired), you'd end of dying of an overdose.

Daunte Culpepper - He had a great arm, but he wasn't that great in Detroit. Not my first option, but I'd bring him in for a workout.

Chris Redman - He beat us when we played Atlanta last year and he did better than Leftwich and Joey Harrington during their Petrino year. I'd like to have him as a backup on our team.

Josh McCown - Eh... sign him for $1 Million and trade him to Jacksonville before the draft... that's about all I'd have him for.

Rex Grossman - Sexy Rexy has experience. As long as he'd accept a backup role, he might be worth having on-hand.

Mark Brunell - Give the guy his gold watch and kick him into the sunset... you won your Super Bowl, now go retire and maybe kick it with Tebow.
